History
Studio City is small but affluent neighborhood located in the City of Los Angeles, California. It is a part of San Fernando Valley in northern Los Angeles. Studio City is one of 24 well known communities in the San Fernando Valley. The Studio City lies 12 miles northwest of the Los Angeles Civic Center and is comfortably settled in the foothills of the north slope of the Santa Monica mountains. Studio City is bordered by five scenic places located in California. It is bounded by Ethel Avenue to the west, the U.S. Route 101 to the north and east, and Mulholland Drive and Santa Monica Mountains to the south.
Back in the year 1920, Studio City consisted of only few business establishments. These business establishments consisted of drug store, a grocery store, a small bank, and a few businesses. Back then these businesses also included a couple of hamburger stands for those people in the Studio City who loves to eat burgers. The name of Studio City originated from the result of the filming activities of Mack Senett. Mack Senett in the 1920s was known as an innovator of slapstick comedy in film. He became famous during the silent film era and known into his time as the king of comedy. The sound stages which were built by Senett have been continually used by CBS Television. Thus far the Studio City was almost only a large parcel of rural land.
A few years later, on June 21 1927, a press news released by Lankershim stated that a corporation set up to develop movie company sites named Central Motion Picture District, had arranged for the construction of a $20 million film center named Studio City. This said development was planned for the NE corner of Ventura Highway and Prospect Street (now Laurel Canyon Boulevard). The first part of the project includes the constructing of 200-acre Mack Sennett Studio. The planned style for the administration building was two stories. In the year 1935 it became Republic Pictures Studio and later CBS Studio Center.
In the year 1928, the name of Studio City became official.
In the year 1935, the development of Studio City was showing a vast growth and progress. This development was brought about by the movie industry. A large number of employees were employed by Republic Studios, which was one of the first entertainment businesses to be established in Studio City. Today a large number of employees by the thousands are working for different studios and related businesses operating in studio City.
The community of Studio City also became known for having a large Jewish population 1950.
Today population in Studio City has grown up to 25,841. This population review was according to 2000 San Fernando Valley Almanac. A vast majority of White Non-Hispanic lineage numbering 84% chose to reside in Studio city. However, Hispanic takes a large minority of 8% and others were broken down into African American at 3% and Asian American at 5%.
The studio city is also home for famous celebrities. This is because of the convenience that the community has to offer. The community has several parks and hiking trails in the Santa Monica Mountains. Scenic Fryman Canyon, which begins at Fryman Road and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, is a favorite walking spot. Among these known celebrities were Paul Thomas Anderson, an American filmmaker best known for his movies with large ensemble casts and complex, interweaving storylines, namely Boogie Nights (1997) and Magnolia (1999). He is part of the first generation of "VCR filmmakers"; directors such as Quentin Tarantino, who learned their craft not in film schools, but by viewing thousands of movies on video in their adolescence and thus gained a vast knowledge of film technique and culture. Another famous celebrity is George Alexander Trebek, a Canadian-American television personality, best known as the host of the game show “Jeopardy!” since 1984. He has hosted numerous game and quiz shows and has appeared in over 70 movies and television series, usually as himself. Another Canadian actor famous in Studio City is William Shatner. This famous actor gained fame for his starring role as Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the television series Star Trek from 1966 to 1969 and in seven of the subsequent movies. The Star of the big hit movie "the 40 year old virgin" named Steven Carell was also a resident of the Studio City. Steven Carell was born in Acton, Massachusetts. However the beautiful place of Studio City catches his attention and then later chooses to live in it. Jack black's sidekick in the comedy movie "Shallow Hal" is also a resident of Studio City. The late Ed Begley, an Academy Award winning American film actor who began his career as radio actor used to be a resident of Studio City. Another famous celebrity in Studio city was the Emmy Award- winning American actress Suzanne Rogers. The Academy Award-winning American actor, director, producer and screenwriter George Timothy Clooney known for his major role in Batman & Robin, The Peacemaker, Ocean's Eleven and twelve and other large produced films is also residing in Studio City. Others like Ed Asner (American Actor best known for his Emmy-winning role as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and later continued in a spin off series, Lou Grant), the late Keith Moon (the drummer of the rock group The Who), Teri Hatcher (Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe Award-winning American actress and author), Jennifer Morrison (an American actress and model who is best known for her role on the Fox drama House), and Seth MacFarlane (an Emmy-winning American animator, screenwriter, producer, director, and voice actor) have also lived or are still living in the scenic unique place of Studio City.
Famous landmarks were also homed in Studio City. The famous television and film studio of CBS Studio Center is homed in Studio City. Others like Ventura/Laurel Canyon shopping districts, Fryman Canyon Park, Los Angeles River walk, and Exterior of Brady Bunch house are also located in Studio City.
The Studio City is not just an ordinary neighborhood but a lively community in San Fernando Valley. It is a community, small in size but great in character, that offers a different style of living with a touch of marvelous radiance. It is an entertainment town, a business centre, resting place and a home all in one. All these factors humbly describe the beautiful place called Studio City.
