The Santa Barbara News-Press was originally owned by New York Times Company until it was sold in the year 2000. Today The Santa Barbara News-Press is owned by a local resident and environmentalist named Wendy P. McCaw. The other popular newspaper in Santa Barbara is the Santa Barbara Daily Sound. The Santa Barbara Daily Sound is a free newspaper which is published 5 days a week. It is available in every newspaper rack and in stores, coffee shops, restaurants, schools and major workplaces. The Santa Barbara Daily Sound is independently owned by another resident of the city of Santa Barbara named Jeramy Gordon.

The Mission sits on a rise overlooking both the City of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean. It was the tenth mission founded, and was named for Saint Barbara of Greece, Virgin and Martyr.
