History
Founded in 1869, Santa Ana is the largest city and the county seat of Orange County, California, with over 340,000 people residing in it. Santa Ana is a part of the Los Angeles – Long Beach – Santa Ana metropolitan area. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Los Angeles – Long Beach – Santa Ana metropolitan area is the second largest metropolitan area in the United States with almost thirteen million people. The city of Santa Ana lies about 10 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. It is located in Southern California on the Santa Ana River, ten miles away from the California coast and only forty minutes southeast of Los Angeles. The city of Santa Ana is accessible by the Santa Ana Freeway, Costa Mesa Freeway and the Garden Grove Freeway.

Today, the city of Santa Ana is also known for its enormously huge Mexican American population. Before, the city is considered one of the all-white cities, but now there is about 75% of the city that is Mexican-American and it has the highest percentage of Latin Americans compared to the other largest cities in the United States of America.

The city of Santa Ana provides to all sports enthusiasts an easy access to all of the professional sports offerings of nearby Anaheim, and Los Angeles. The Santa Ana-Anaheim-Irvine, California is the present metropolitan designation given to the Orange County Area and the city of Santa Ana by the White House Office of Management and Budget or OMB.

Santa Ana is the home of some top companies, including Ingram Micro, First American Corporation, and the original Glenn L. Martin aviation company, which later merged with the Lockheed Corporation. They form the Lockheed Martin to create the largest aircraft and weapons manufacturing corporation. Santa Ana is also home to the famous guitar manufacturer, Rickenbacker International Corporation. Many of these musical instruments like the bass guitars and electric guitars earned thier reputation in the hands of many rock and roll legends.

In 1869, the city of Santa Ana was founded by Kentuckian William H. Spurgeon. He bought 74 acres from the Yorba estate and began to lay out a 24-block village. Spurgeon set aside an entire city block for construction of an impressive stone courthouse with a tower that rose higher than any building in town. The courthouse still stands and has been restored. After the Southern Pacific Railroad was built in 1877, the city of Santa Ana began to boom. In 1886, nine years later, the Santa Ana became a city. Santa Ana grew industrially after the World War II. There was diverse manufacturing in the city, which was part of the large Anaheim–Santa Ana–Garden Grove metropolitan area.

In the 1980s, the civic leaders have been working to revitalize the city of Santa Ana and restore its image. Santa Ana has aggressively pursued redevelopment, luring major hotels, retailers and industry. One of the more visible results is the MainPlace shopping center downtown. The mall, which opened in 1987, has created 2,000 jobs and added considerably to the city's revenue. In 1889, it became the seat of the newly formed Orange County. Insurance companies are also major employers. In the late 20th century, Santa Ana was one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States of America. The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art and the Mexican American Museum of Art are both found in the city of Santa Ana.

Today, many residents of the city of Santa Ana perceive their city as making a comeback. They take pride in stating that the city of Santa Ana is the only genuinely veritable urban area in Orange County, and they all enjoy Santa Ana’s cultural diversity.
