History
San Jose is a productive city of northern California in the United States of America. It is approximately located about 50 miles south of San Francisco and 390 miles north of Los Angeles. It is considered as the largest city in the Bay Area and also the county seat of Santa Clara County. San Jose is a thriving business and residential community. The city of San Jose is home to the largest concentration of technology expertise in the world. The city has twenty five companies and employs more than 1000 employees. San Jose, with a prosperous economy, is also considered as the Capital of Silicon Valley. Thirty five percent of the venture capital funds are invested in San Jose and Silicon Valley companies.

San Jose is rich in history. The first inhabitants of San Jose include Ohlone Native Americans. San Jose, which was founded by 1777, was California’s first civilian settlement. San Jose was established as the Town of Saint Joseph from Guadalupe or El Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe by Jose Joaquin Moraga. By July 11, 1846, during the Bear Flag Revolt, Captain Thomas Fallon led a force from Santa Cruz and took over the pueblo. It was by July 14 when an American flag was raised over the pueblo as the California Republic agreed to join the United States. San Jose was incorporated on March 27, 1850 and was one of the first incorporated cities in California. By 1850 and 1851, the Legislature of a Thousand Drinks was held in San Jose.

San Jose was an abundant farming community. Some of the major crops of the city include apricots, grapes and prunes. It was also in San Jose where the first commercial farming of broccoli took place in 1922 by the brothers Stephano and Andrea D’Arrigo. By 1883, the Food Machinery Corporation was established in San Jose as the Bean Spray Pump Company. The largest employer in the city was the Del Monte cannery in Midtown. By 1943, the west coast headquarters of International Business Machines Corporation was established in San Jose. It was the beginning of San Jose’s changing from an agricultural to a business community.

The population of San Jose as of year 2000 statistics of the United States Census Bureau was 894, 943 persons with 276, 598 households. The racial composition of San Jose was tallied at 47.49% White, 3.50% African American, 0.77% Native American, 26.86% Asian, 0.40% Pacific Islander, 15.94% from other races, and 5.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race composed 30.17% of the population. The total area of San Jose is 461.5 square kilometers, with 452.9 square kilometers land area and 8.6 square kilometers water area. San Jose has a Mediterranean climate with temperatures varying from an average of 50 degrees in January to an average of 70 degrees in July. The city’s sunny days has an average of more than 300 days per year and has an annual rainfall of 14.4 inches.

The city of San Jose has the largest and most famous university which is the San Jose State University. San Jose is also within a short drive of some of the best golfing areas in the country which includes the Coyote Creek Golf Club.
