History
If you want a beautiful place to live, San Francisco is the right place for you. San Francisco is one of the best cities in the world. It offers you a residence with an enchanting history and view of fascinating landmarks, counter-cultural trends and strident liberalism. The place will surely fulfill your every dream.

San Francisco city is also known as "The City by the Bay; Fog City". It is the fourth-largest city in California and considered as the fourteenth among the cities in the United States of America. San Francisco city is located in the outermost end of the San Francisco peninsula which is protruding out into the Pacific Ocean, on the west coast of the United States.

San Francisco has a total area of 600.7 km² (231.9 sq mi). Its land area has a total of 121.0 km² (46.7 sq mi), while its water area has a total of 479.7 km² (185.2 sq mi). The elevation of San Francisco is placed at 19.2m or 63 feet above sea level. The San Francisco's rich history started in the early years of 1500's. During 1500s a British navigator named Francis Drake landed near the north of San Francisco, although he had planted the British banner in the land nobody took much notice of that historical event. Francis Drake called the land as “ Nova Albion.”

The Yelamu group of the Ohlone people is the first people to inhabit the San Francisco Peninsula. The ethnic group lived in the land for a long period spanning 8000 B.C until the early 19th century. The four major villages of the Indians were the Chutchui, Amuctac, Tubsinte, and Petlenuc.

In the year 1769 the Spanish came and also became one of the first Europians to set foot in San Francisco. The Spanish land expedition coming from the area of Mexico and led by Gaspar de Portola named the city San Francisco in honor of St. Francis. After their arrival, the Spaniards built barracks and organized a mission in order to convert and educate the native Indians called the Ohlone people. On August 5, 1775 the first boat named as San Carlos and led by a Spanish lieutenant Juan Manuel de Ayala entered the San Francisco bay area.

In the year 1821 after Mexico was released from Spanish rule, the Mexicans were able to travel out of their land northwards, towards the direction of California. Like the Spaniards, the Mexicans also built several missions along their journey to San Francisco. Soon after, large portions of the land were distributed among the Spaniards and the Mexican colonists. The Indians found themselves and their lands parted between two civilizations. On July 9, 1846, during the war between Mexico and United States an American battleship (USS American sloop Portsmouth) entered the golden gate. The ship's captain named Captain John Montgomery sets up an American flag in the plaza which he later renamed as Portsmouth Square. Captain John Montgomery temporarily called the city as "Yerba Buena." Soon after, by January 30, 1847, the city was called San Francisco.

Afterwards the Gold rush begins...

Because of that gold rush, people in different places arrived in San Francisco. Thus the population San Francisco boosts up from a number of 2'000 to 20'000 in a short period of time. Particularly in the year 1849, 38’000 men came by the sea and 42'000 by ground.

These people came down in history as "The Forty-Niners" because of the memorable year of their sudden influx.

In 1850 California became an American state. Even though the gold may have dwindled the community's wealth it had brought about remained. The city of San Francisco became densely populated. San Francisco grew ever richer in the late 19th century. Famous structures were established in the city.

As of the year 2000 census conducted by the United States census bureau, the population in San Francisco, California was 776,733; with males numbering 394,828 (50.8%), and females numbering 381,905 (49.2%). A later estimate of population conducted in July 2005 by the same bureau places the total number at 739,426 (-4.8% change).

The 776,733 populace of San Francisco city was further subdivided into different races, with people of White Non-Hispanic lineage taking up a vast majority of 43.6%; Hispanic taking up 14.1%, Black or African American taking up 7.8%, other race taking up 6.5%, two or more races taking up 4.3%, and American Indian taking up 1.2%. There are also some Asians who chose to reside in San Francisco; these are Chinese taking up 19.6%, Filipinos taking up 5.2%, Japanese taking up 1.5%, Vietnamese taking up 1.4%, Asian Indian taking up 0.7%, Korean taking up 1.0%, and other Asians taking up 1.5%.

Today a number of world famous landmarks and famous hallmarks are homed in the city of San Francisco. The San Francisco bay is shallow yet commercially productive inland water surrounded by a neighborhood of rich cities collectively known as the San Francisco bay area.

San Francisco cable car system is world's last permanently operational manually-operated cable car system. The cable car system forms part of the interposal urban transport network operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest and most recognizable skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline. Built on the location of the historic Montgomery Block, it has a structural height of 260 meters (853 feet) and contains 48 stories of retail and office space.

Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening into the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. It connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula and a portion of the south-facing Marin County headlands near the small bayside town of Sausalito.

Alcatraz Island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay is a former military stockade and later as a maximum security prison. It is now under the supervision of National Park Service and is open to tourists.

Brazil: Copy Cats? What Copy Cats? (TechCrunch) I’ll say this about Brazilian startups—they’re certainly not dominated by Web copycats. Perhaps it’s because there aren’t a huge number of Brazilians who’ve made it big in the Valley transmuting the local way of doing things back home or because there’s not a lot of US venture capital flooding into the country. Perhaps it’s the country’s noted isolationist streak, or perhaps it was just the ...
