History
The city of Pasadena is located on north of downtown Los Angeles, California in the United States of America. Pasadena boasts a population of 135,000, making it Los Angeles County's eighth-largest city. It is the home of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech), and the Art Center College of Design, a cutting-edge design school. Pasadena forms the center of art and technology and also the main population and cultural center of the San Gabriel Valley.

The Pasadena has a total of 133,936 people living in the city with 51,944 households and 29,862 families. The average density of the 54,132 housing units is 904.8/km² and the average value of population density is 2,238.7/km². There are 53.36% White people, 33.40% are Hispanic or Latino, 16.01% from other races, 14.42% are African American, 10% Asian, 5.39% are from two races or more, and 0.71% Native American. There is also a 0.10% Pacific Islander.

According to Census Designated Place (CDP) the average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.30 and over 41.2% are already married and was living together though 27.1% of them have children under the age of 18 and was still living with their family in Pasadena. About 42.4% of the households do not have families yet and about 12.1% of the female households do not have a companion. Approximately 33.7% of the households are individuals and 9.3% of the households are individuals living alone and 65 years of age or above. The total median income for a household is $46,012. For the men the median income is $41,120, while for women they have a total median income of $36,435. The Pasadena was once occupied by the Hahamogna Tribe of Indians, a branch of the Tongva. The Hahamognas lived in villages along the Arroyo Seco and the canyons from the mountains down to the South Pasadena area. When the Spaniards arrive together with the establishment of the San Gabriel Mission on September 8, 1771, the Indians were forced to work for the mission.

In 1873, an Indian resident, Dr. Tomas Balch Elliot formed a group called California Colony of Indiana. They were a group of more than 100 families who wish to have moderate weather throughout the year. Daniel M. Berry the brother-in-law of Elliott scouted Southern California’s 50,000 acres or so, for the families back in Indiana. Berry viewed these residents as intelligent, educated and industrious people much like the members of the California Colony of Indiana, leading idyllic, healthful lives. European settlers already in the area like Benjamin D. Wilson and his partner, John S. Griffin owned and worked other large tracts of land. About three months of negotiations the Indiana group purchased almost 4,000 acres of the San Pascual Ranch from both Griffin and Wilson, for $25,000 or $6.31 an acre.

By far, the biggest tourist attraction in Pasadena is the annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game. It brings million of visitors to see the flower-bedecked floats and to attend pre- and post-parade events, as well as the championship football game.

The popular Doo Dah Parade held in Pasadena, California, satirizes this extravagant floral event on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The Doo Dah Parade is an everyman's campy spoof of the Rose Parade complete with the strangest, weirdest and most amusing participants. There are about 1,500 participants in over 100 groups such as the Synchronized Brief Case Marching Drill Team that dress in business suits and use their briefcases as precision props. Another audience favorite is the drag ensemble West Hollywood Cheerleaders with their wild antics and a group that marches in fixed formations; they do this while carrying mannequin arms.

Other parade participants are equally interesting, like the Claude Rains & the 20-Man Memorial Invisible Man Marching Drill Team, The Shopping Cart Drill Team, BBQ & Hibachi Marching Grill Team, The Bastard Sons of Lee Marvin, and The Men of Leisure Synchronized Nap Team. Many groups participate in the Doo Dah Parade as a fundraising effort for some charities. Other visitors can also get a look inside the space exploration trailblazer Jet Propulsion Laboratory's facilities, and it only opens during their normal Visitor Day tours.

The center of shopping and dining here is the Old Town Pasadena. It is bounded by Arroyo Parkway on the east; Pasadena Avenue on the west; Walnut Street on the north; and Del Mar Blvd. on the south. There are more than 200 buildings dating back to the 1880s and 1890s that line the streets of Old Pasadena and these are now home to trendy boutiques and stylish restaurants.

Other restaurants which are also highly rated for their fine dining are the Parkway Grill, Bistro K, and the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel, as well as The Raymond Restaurant, and the Latin-inspired Xiamora.

The Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel and the Westin Pasadena take top honors with visitors with their expensive hotels. While the Hilton and Sheraton hotel, Holiday Inn Express, and Marriott Courtyard, are for Mid-range hotels. Other hotel such as, The Best Western Pasadena Inn, Comfort Inn, Super 8, and Saga Motor Hotel are for budget-minded travelers.
