History
Burbank is also known the world over as the "media capital of the world”. Burbank is home to many an entertainment and media company within the United States of America. It is located in an eastern corner of an urbanized valley in Southern California, the San Fernando Valley.
A lot of experts have theorized that it was named after an American botanist (a scientist who specializes in plants) and horticulturist (a scientist who studies methods of culturing and cultivating plant life) named Luther Burbank. However, truth be told, Burbank was named for Dr. David Burbank. Dr. David Burbank was a dentist born in the New Hampshire area. During the year 1867, Dr. David Burbank was actively participating and dealing in real estate within Los Angeles. He purchased two large Spanish land grants, the Rancho San Rafael and Rancho La Providencia. Together with some professional land speculators, he developed the land into subdivisions. In the following years some people started to build structures and the land was recognized as a city – the city of Burbank.
As of July 2004 an estimated population of 104,114 had chosen to take up residence in the city of Burbank, with almost half of them, 48.5%, being males and the remaining 51.5% were females.
